Looking for something to do this weekend? Why not work on the railroad. There’s always another model to build, or more detail to add. For some inspiration check out these scenes and projects posted by model railroaders on our social media pages.

Heavy Lifting
Dwarfing every other piece of equipment, a Mi-Jack crane gets ready to lift the APL container from its chassis. Check more model railroad scenes featuring modern era intermodal traffic by following @modeltrains365.
Resourceful Railroading
Modelers have a knack for seeing the potential of found materials for a variety of projects. Kylie Reid is no exception. One interesting detail she added to this trackside scene is a barbwire fence that she scratchbuilt using toothpicks for posts and thread for the wire.
Crossing Guards
A signal maintainer is hard at work in the bucket of the boom truck as orange barrels keep motorists off the freshly painted pavement in this scene on the HO railroad built by @u.p.toastertrains. The father and son duo have already installed trackside signals and are now beginning work on their layout’s grade crossings.
Ready to Ship
Workers get pallets ready to ship out on the next boxcar at American Hardware Supply. David Gilbert added figures, details, and exterior worklights to bring this trackside industry to life on his layout.
Strangers on a Train
This Connecticut family found some local inspiration for their National Model Railroad Build-Off entry. They’re building a scene based on the former New Haven RR station in Danbury, Conn., which gained famed as one of the locations in the classic Alfred Hitchcock film, Strangers on a Train. See more photos and videos of their work by following @modeltrainho. To learn more about this year’s National Model Railroad Build-Off, click on www.walthers.com/nmrbo21.

We hope you enjoy these scenes and discussions as much as we enjoy bringing them to you! Check out our newest announcements in the recent Spring 2021 Walthers Direct video.
